A Tribute to the Founder of Federal Bank Who Redefined Indian banking Ethos

25th January 2019 was marked in golden letters in the history of the financial landscape of the country with the publication of K P Hormis Memoir – “A Legacy Beyond Banking” as a great tribute to the visionary Founder of Federal Bank. While it will be a source of inspiration to future generations it was the realization of a great dream which many the Senior Federals who had opportunity to work with him have been cherishing for quite a long time. It will also be a referral book many students in future. The book was released by Shri. Shyam Srinivasan, MD& CEO, Federal Bank on 25th January 2019 in a grand program held at the St. Mary’s Forane Church Centenary Church Auditorium, Mookkannoor, birth place of late K P Hormis in the presence of eminent personalities such as Shri. Roji M John MLA, Shri. K S Radhakrishnan, Former VC, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanksrit and Shri. K P Fabian, IFS (Retd), Former Ambassador and attended by a large audience.

This book was published as a joint initiative of Federal Bank Retired Officers’ Forum (FBROF), Federal Bank Officers’ Association (FBOA), Federal Bank Executive Forum (FBEF) & K P Hormis Educational & Charitable Society (KPHECS), with support from the CSR Department, Federal Bank Limited, and FISATCom. Tom Thomas, President, FBROF was the Chairman of the Publication Committee. Bank has made it available in the library of all branches of the Bank as a reference text. FBOA acquired sufficient copies with a view to present a copy of this precious book on our founder to the retiring Officers along with the usual Memento.

This book was written by Ms. T.S Preetha who is an author and journalist associated with leading newspapers including The Times of India, The New Indian Express and The Deccan Chronicle in a career spanning more than 2 ½ decades.

The book is truly a homage to K.P Hormis who scripted the Great Indian Banking Story through Federal Bank, turning his life into an inspirational text for generations to come. The beginning was humble, but the vision of K.P Hormis in whose hands the destiny of the Travancore Federal Bank fell after years of inaction was grandiose. He rechristened it as Federal Bank and led it from the forefront, and today it is one of the topmost commercial banks in the private sector in India, catering today over 18.39 Million customers through its wide network of 1509 outlets spread across the country and 2034 ATMs and Recyclers today. Even three decades after his death, Federal family carries the aura of this great visionary who changed lives beyond expectations and built a model for ethical and humane corporate governance. He created a people’s bank, and in turn played a key role in the social and economic development of Kerala, promoting social banking way before it became a buzz word in the financial sector.
